Synopsis

Two Thousand Years of Tradition is about to meet the Next Generation

In Yunmeng, a rural city in the Hubei Province, there is a theater; a teahouse where old men gather amongst the shadows of the past, drinking tea and playing cards. There, an ancient art takes place and brings magic back into everyday life.

Join Aurelien Foucault and Cedric Quennesson as they bring the ancient spectacle of Chinese Shadow Puppetry to life. Meet the colorful denizens of the Mengze Theatre as well as master puppeteer Qin Ligang and his prodigious grandson as they display this breathtaking art. But Of Shadows and Men is about more than simply entertainment. It is a story about a modernizing China and the importance of passing its traditions and cultural heritage on from one generation to the next.
