Synopsis

Rhode Island Summer is a short film by acclaimed photographer and chronicler of the modern upper class, Tina Barney. A simple home video camera quietly moves through the lives of vacationing families on the Rhode Island shore, capturing everything from furious pie eating contests to lazy days on the beach. Filled with bits and pieces of activity from hectic wedding preparations to the triumph of a mens golf tournament, Rhode Island Summer slowly and truthfully constructs a mood and a character for this coastal retreat and its wealthy patrons, without ever editorializing or composing the action in front of the lens. This short but illuminating film shows the arresting power of a camera when given the time to simply capture its subject.
