Synopsis

An intimate film that does nothing less than re-imagine death's rituals for a new generation of the chronically mortal, Unloosened and Root expands artist David Dixon's video, performance, and sculpture practice into a film independent of the common conventions of cinema. A "Viking" funeral, Mardi Gras in pre-Katrina New Orleans, a colonoscopy searching for cancer, and a lonely campground that leads to the brink of consciousness: Unloosened and Root interweaves two stories -- one documentary and one fiction -- to tell a singular tale of mourning and loss.

Original music composed by Nonesuch recording artist Fernando Otero.
